Permanent Impairment

DVA Permanent Impairment Claims.
Nothing Left on the Table.

Once DVA accepts your conditions, Permanent Impairment is the compensation for what they've done to your life. I run the whole claim for a fixed fee.

Who This Is For

Accepted by DVA?
This Is the Next Step.

This is for serving members and veterans with conditions DVA has accepted through Initial Liability who've never been paid PI on them. Conditions accepted under the VEA or DRCA count too: since 1 July 2026 they carry across to the MRCA automatically.

Initial Liability is DVA agreeing a condition is service-related. PI is the tax-free compensation on top of that for what the condition does to your day-to-day life, and across several conditions it adds up. Each one has to be stable first, which DVA calls clinical stabilisation.

What BAC Does

How I Run a PI Claim

Check Every Accepted Condition

I list every accepted condition on your file, whether PI was ever paid on it, and whether it's stable enough to assess. Earlier VEA or DRCA compensation gets noted, since DVA pays the extra, not twice.

  • Full accepted-conditions review
  • Stability check per condition
  • Previous compensation identified

Coordinate the Medical Assessments

Every new PI claim uses one guide, GARP M. A doctor rates each condition and the ratings combine into one whole-of-person figure in impairment points. I organise the assessments and make sure the doctor has your full history, lifestyle effects included.

  • GARP M assessments organised
  • Lifestyle rating evidence
  • Every condition in one figure

Prepare, Lodge and Chase

You can claim PI at any time in writing, so I don't wait for DVA to raise it. I prepare and lodge the claim, answer whatever DVA comes back with, and chase it to a decision.

  • Claim prepared and lodged
  • DVA requests handled
  • Plain-English updates

Check the Decision Before You Sign

The decision comes with a choice of weekly payments, an age-based lump sum, or a mix, and the election is final. I check the points against what we claimed, explain each option, and if they're wrong we look at a review.

What You'll Need

Bring What You've Got. I'll Chase the Rest.

  • Your DVA decision letters or accepted conditions list (or I'll get them)
  • Any PI, DRCA lump sum or VEA Disability Compensation Payment already received
  • Treating GP and specialist details, plus recent reports
  • How each condition affects work, sleep, relationships and getting around
Common Questions

PI Questions I Get Every Week

My conditions were accepted under the VEA or DRCA. Can I still claim PI?

+
Yes, as an MRCA claim. The VEA and DRCA closed to new claims from 1 July 2026, but accepted conditions carry across under section 24A of the MRCA. Compensation already paid is taken into account: you're paid for the extra, not twice.

Lump sum or weekly payments?

+
Weekly payments paid fortnightly, an age-based lump sum, or a mix. The election is final, so don't sign on the day the offer lands. Get independent financial advice first.

I've been paid PI before and my conditions have got worse. What now?

+
That's a reassessment. For PI to be payable on a worsening, GARP M has to find at least 5 more impairment points than last time. See the PI reassessment page.

If your conditions are accepted and stable, book a chat and I'll tell you straight whether a PI claim is worth lodging. The full Permanent Impairment guide covers GARP M, the lifestyle rating and the lump sum rules. Already been paid PI? Start with PI reassessments. BAC charges a fixed fee, agreed before we start, so 100% of your entitlement stays yours.
